Sunday school classes begin at 9:30 AM. The children's Sunday School uses the Spirit of the Season's one-room Sunday School class for all ages. The adult Sunday school class studies various topics and books in the Bible.
The family worship service begins at 10:45 AM every Sunday, and we love having visitors and guests. A staffed nursery is available for children up to five years of age.
We strive to blend various styles of worship, so on many of the Sundays, we sing "praise music" along with the more traditional hymns. Special music ranges from country to Gospel, to classical, and everything in between. Most of our prayers and responses are in conversational tone. An opportunity is given to lift up "joys and concerns" during our prayer time.
We celebrate the Lord's supper the first Sunday of every month, as well as Christmas Eve, and Maundy Thursday. We practice the tradition of "open communion," that is, all who accept Jesus Christ as savior, regardless of their particular beliefs or denominational background, are welcome at the Lord's table.

Our Chrisitan ministry to the community began in 1924. The concept of one church for many faiths came from the need for a church for the families working at the old Louisville Cement Company. Because they represented many different denominations, the idea of an ecumenical congregation seemed like the best solution. Mr. William Speed, president of the cement company, and his sister, Mrs. Olive Speed Scakett, donated the money for the construction of the church, which was named in honor of their father, James B. Speed.
In decades since its inception, Speed Memorial Church has remained committed to a belief that "what we have in common outweighs our differences." Our doors are open to all who seek a clear relationship with God through Jesus Christ, including those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior who desire to explore their faith further as they desire, and those who are curious about the Christian faith.
Speed Memorial Church has entered the millenium with a strong Christian faith, a dedication to serving others, love and fondness for one and another with an appreciation for the many ways in which one can worship and adore the Lord. We are an enthusiastic congregation that looks forward to continuing the Christian principles and values set forth by our founding fathers. By the grace of God, we will continue to serve and honor our Heavenly Father, our Lord, for generations to come.
